For over 35 years I've been faithfully going to Family Dental Group -- first with Jerry and later with Alan as well. This group is top notch and always has been. But just as important, they are truly nice and kind people who make the dental experience fun. Yes, I said fun. I look forward to my visits, which trust me... is a far cry from the dental experiences I had growing up.

Luckily, I found Family Dental Group when I was in high school (in Newark). Even though I'm now married and moved to Hasbrouck Heights, I still make the trip back to Belleville for my dental work. I wouldn't trade this place for anyone else. (side note, over the years my entire family now also goes here).

Their first rate work is only exceeded by all the super people that make up the team.

I have been a patient of Dr Alan Jacob for about a year, I came on here to write a review and was completely taken aback by the horribly lies about him someone left! Money hungry??? Well I was recently laid off from my job and desperately needed a crown since I have no insurance I had to pay out of pocket HE BROKE UP MY COSTS INTO 8 MONTHLY PAYMENTS! He was definitely a great dentist, very gentle and made me feel so comfortable the entire visit. I am a person who has been terrified of the dentist and Dr Jacob changed all that and as long as I live in the area I will be a patient and refer anyone I know!

The father was a good dentist. The son would be good, if he wasn't just trying to line his pockets with your money. Seriously, Alan Jacobs answer to almost any problem is, "Needs a crown."

I went to young Jacobs because my usual dentist was unavailable. He recommended a crown. I was skeptical but he just kept talking and talking and eventually I said ok.

I went back to my usual dentist who reviewed the x-rays and he confirmed that I had been ripped off.

Its infuriating because he manipulates you into believing he's being genuine when he's not. I should of went with my gut feeling. There were red flags all over the place. He had pictures of himself with his patients plastered all over the place and they all screamed fake. I mean he looked so "posed" and he was smiling but with dead eyes. I couldn't help but think it was odd but I ignored it. Then there was this emotionless voice of his. He seemed rational enough but it in the end, when I really thought about what he was saying, it made no sense.

I had an honest dentist review his work and it really shows how fake he is. Jacobs would be good in politic, thats how sneaky he is. There are so many of these bad dentists out there. Don't be suckered by this one.

Here are some red flags for bad dentists like Alan Jacobs:

-Wants you to get multiple crowns.
-Knows your insurance policy/coverage very thoroughly(it means he constantly checking to see how much he can make)
-insists on things you are against, like the usual filling
-shows you x-rays and explains why you needed work with many technical terms(seriously I'm not a dentist, but Jacobs was making up crap on the spot)
-shows lack of empathy!(this is a problem with lots of doctors and a big red flag)

Im one of those guys that has the worst phobia's when it comes to the dentist. After googling dentists that cater towards people with phobia's I tried several dentists without the results I was looking for. Someone recommended Dr. Alan Jacob so I thought I would give it a try. I cant even begin to say how at ease I am at Family Dental Group. Dr. Alan Jacob definitely is the guy you want to see if your afraid of going to the dentist. Even if you dont fear the dentist Dr. Jacob has the best bedside manner and is no doubt the most approachable dentist ive ever had. He went over my Xrays in detail for about 1/2 hour and laid out the best plan for me with careful consideration to my financial situation and my work schedule. As a technologist I can clearly see he is using the latest. I can honestly say I no longer sit in the waiting room panic stricken. He actually makes the visit enjoyable. I never thought I would ever say that about any dentist.I found my dentist for life. Thanks Dr Jacob your the best! Dean La Prete

My husband and I have been treated by Dr. Alan Jacob and his father for the past 15 years. All that I can say is that they are so caring about you, that you forget your at the dentist !!. Both of us over the years took the step to finally fixing long awaited work......When the time was right, I recently worked with Dr Alan. He delivered as guaranteed and much more. With the most incredible dedication to detailed work and just as important a chair side manner I've NEVER SEEN, ( he truly cares about everyone).....He changed my life!! (This 8 years after doing that for my husband who has horrible fear ), I recently fixed several teeth which have affected my ability to smile the way I used to. I owe a lot to him because not only am i smiling again, Im showing off my happiness and cant wait to take pictures again laughing!!!! Thank You forever!

They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. I've been places before where they were argumentative and angry, so I was nervous that I would encounter that here as well. Instead, they were very calm and understanding the entire time. I could tell they really care about everyone who visits them. They always go above and beyond to make sure I understand every single detail about my dental procedures. I'm always able to get all my questions answered, and I'm never nervous about starting a procedure. I was amazed at how wonderfully they treated each of their staff members. They were so appreciative and thankful. I've never seen any employer treat their staff better, and it made me want to come back that much more. I love that they are always more than happy to answer my questions, and actually welcome questions. I've felt awkward at some other places I've visited when I've tried to ask a lot of questions, but not here.
