I visited this dentist for a cleaning and let him know of gum pain that I was having. He said it was nothing, he didn't see anything. Approximately 3 weeks later my tooth cracked where I had been having the pain. I saw the dentist again 2 days after it cracked and he said that I had 2 choices since the tooth was cracked all the way down into my gum. He could refer me to a specialist so they could try to save the tooth, or he could pull it and do an implant. I asked him for his professional opinion. He recommended pulling the tooth. He also informed me that the there was infection. I agreed to have the tooth pulled. He numbed me up and pulled the tooth. It was very difficult to remove, but he eventually got it out. It was very uncomfortable and he and the hygienist joked about how hard it was to get out. Afterwards I asked if I needed any antibiotics since there was infection and he said no, the infection would be gone with the tooth. After the numbing medication wore off later that evening I was in excruciating pain. He had prescribed 800mg of Motrin and Vicodin for me. I was in serious pain for the next 4 days until I couldn't stand it anymore and went to a walk-in medical center because I felt like it was not normal pain after a tooth extraction. They put me on antibiotics and recommended I go back to the dentist, which I did on the 5th day. He said it was normal pain, there was no dry socket, which I was concerned about and that I didn't need the antibiotic but I could take it if I wanted to. The pain continued for weeks. I called the office and asked them to refer me to an oral surgeon so that I could find out what was going on. After several phone calls, I eventually got a referral. I also asked for another round of antibiotics because I wasn't getting any better and I was afraid the infection was getting worse. It took 2 days to get the Rx and they didn't even ask to see me or what was going on. One month after the extraction I was still having considerable pain in my jaw, ear and the socket. The pain radiated into my forehead and scalp and down into my neck. I went to the ER and they said that I had infection in my jaw and referred me to a Maxillofacial clinic in Wilmington. I went there the next day and they opened the site back up and scraped down to the bone removing the root tips that had been left behind by the dentist at DE/MD Dental. After 4 visits to the clinic at Wilmington hospital, I was referred to a surgeon. I was informed that the pain that I continue to experience months later is due to the nerve damage that the dentist at DE/MD Dental caused when he numbed me to remove my tooth. It could take a year or more for the nerve damage to heal. DO NOT TRUST THIS DENTIST TO DO ANY EXTRACTIONS!!! Trust me, this pain has been horrible!
