I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Mehlman's staff for going the extra mile on my behalf this afternoon. Late yesterday afternoon, Dr. Mehlman's office scheduled me for an aortic ultrasound to be done this afternoon. When I arrived, the receptionist did not have my appointment noted and advised that the Technician had gone home for the day.

The receptionist and another staff member realized that my appointment with them had been made after 5:00 PM yesterday and, therefore, was not on the schedule for today that they printed at the close of business yesterday. They apologized and told me they had called Amy, the Technician and she was on her way back in to do my ultrasound.

Amy arrived about fifteen minutes later and did my study and called Dr. Mehlman with the results which she then gave to me.

They apologized and said that from this point on, they will be printing their daily schedule at the end of each business day and again first thing each following morning to compare the two, just in case an appointment is made after the main office has closed.

I truly appreciated their kindness and Amy coming in especially to accommodate me. Thank you for the professionalism your staff continually exhibits.

Dr. Mehlman was great.

However when checking out we had a horrible experience. My wife suffers from advanced COPD and is on oxygen 24/7. While we sat at the check out station with employee Brenda, my wife started crashing on her oxygen saturation. A quick check with a "finger" pulox show a saturation in the low 80's and dropping. I told Brenda in no uncertain terms that my wife needed oxygen and told her what the oxygen saturation level was - the responses was a blank look. I repeated the request for oxygen with a new saturation level in the 70's; again a reptilian look of confusion. At 72 saturation I ran to our car and retrieved one of our emergency oxygen supplies, running back through the lobby to deliver life saving oxygen to my wife only to find my wife sitting in on oxygen deprived state and Brenda still just sitting, looking blankly at my wife, making with no attempt to help or call for help.
I doubled up with two oxygen supplies and got my wife's numbers going up - still no response from Brenda. When my wife could walk, I got to her to the car and was able to return her oxygen saturation to the mid 90's.

One of the best doctors to be found in Fort Myers was only steps away, while we languished at the check out station with Brenda. I am totally astounded by the lack of response from this staff member and those staff members around her in such a critical situation.

I am writing Dr. Mehlman about this event as I feel he would not condone this behavior.
