My collar bone was CRUSHED in an accident. Instead of repairing the injury, Kaiser put me in a sling and let the mangled tissue and shards of bone heal in a misshapen lump. This resulted in diminished use of the arm, and constant, debiltating pain. Dr Melberg refused to correct the problem surgically. He flatly said it was impossible to fix, and was clearly annoyed that I took up his time.

When I lost feeling in the arm and could no longer use my hand, I sought medical help outside of the Kaiser system. My new doctor discovered that the mess of bone fragments healed in a way that impinged on a nerve, cutting off circulation to my arm. Many thanks to Dr Andrew Brown who corrected the problem and restored my life.

Dr Melberg refused to order an mri of my knee, lied and told me an mri would be of no use, refused to see me in clinic when (two days after surgery I got an infection and blood in my knee and an emergency room visit). He consistently did not include my stated complications in his notes and went so far to state I was walking unassisted when I could barely walk using a cane. He is, without doubt, the worst orthopedic doctor I have ever seen. 15 months after my right knee surgery (lateral meniscus) my knee was still very painful and swollen. Kaisers suggested I make an appointment in 2 months.

This surgeon failed to diagnose a condition (femoroacetabular impingment, or FAI) I have suffered with for a long time thanks to last year's undiagnosis by another Kaiser Permanente orthopedic surgeon. I had two outside orthopedic surgeons (out-of-network, out-of-pocket) recommend surgery by the time I could get in to see a Kaiser orthopedic surgeon this year, only to have Kaiser's Dr Melberg (the self-professed only surgeon in Kaiser-Permanente Denver/Boulder to even diagnose FAI) systematically discount any symptoms, diagnostics, or ideas/questions I presented. His lack of empathy whatsoever, cold and intimidating demeanor, unwavering and pre-planned agenda, and obvious lack of expertise in the area of hip arthroscopy was apalling. Dr Melberg broke the unwritten code of surgeons by blatantly discrediting the abilities of a local world-renowned surgeon, Dr Marc Philippon, in front of my very eyes, by saying he (Melberg) had to "fix" a 19 year-old patient of Philippon's by performing a TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT. He went on to laugh at the idea of having 50 hip arthroscopies under his belt before I would consider him as a surgeon...a suggestion I had received through an acquaintance from a Kaiser Permanente California surgeon... stating "It'll take me YEARS to do 50!"

I strongly believe that my well-being is not on Dr Melberg's priority list, nor will I ever encounter this man without a legal or moral counselor by my side. Kaiser Permanente Colorado as a whole has failed to allow me to "thrive."

Come on, Kaiser Permanente Colorado--I know you are reading this. Provide your 1/2 million members proper care via well-trained physicians who are not hesitant to provide the necessary treatment! To allow me to suffer for 14 months to the point of being homebound at the age of 31 (when I used to be a runner and gym rat), telling me I am "rushing into surgery" after paying out-of-pocket for months of manual physical therapy, changing my life completely and relying on others for shopping and basic needs... It is criminal what you are able to get away with. Criminal. You know who I am. You've heard and read my successive calls for help. Listen to me.
