My visit to this office was the most negative encounter with doctors I ever had. They quoted an expected customary sum as an out-of-pocket cost, then provided un-requested and un-needed service, charged me for it and then concocted a lie to cover it up and deflect all possible complaints.

Yes, I am calling the office and personally Dr. Blumberg a liar; and yes, I am calling their actions an extortion and a violation of medical ethics.
I advise anyone to stay away from this office: there are many that are at least at the same level of quality, within just extra few min of driving.
You can read of what happened below, but I am not going to repeat here the lie that Dr. Blumberg told us a few days later. His version just does not make sense: whatever he says, and regardless of who of his employees he calls as “witnesses” (as if they would go against his word) - neither I nor anyone, would ever request or agree to an un-needed procedure with extra cost of $100.

Here is what happened:

I came for eye exam and prescription for glasses. This is covered by my vision plan with $15 co-pay. That sum was confirmed to me at the reception desk. The doctor (it was not Dr. Blumberg) did the normal stuff with light into the eye and reading the letters on the board, and asked me to try on a pair of one-day contacts. At this point I reminded her that I do not need a contact lens fitting, I have my own that work well, and that I was there for the sole reason of getting a glasses prescription. She insisted that I try on the contacts, and I left the examination room with the trial contacts on.

At the reception I was surprised by the total, which included ~$100 for “contacts fitting”. They said that, since I walked into the office with my contacts on, they had to perform “contact lenses fitting”. Reception did not tell me upfront about that or that this would be an extra price, and the doctor did not tell me about extra charge when he was doing the “fitting”. I was ready to pay required co-pay and did not want to pay for an un-requested “fitting”. At the end they refused to release the prescription for glasses until I pay the bill in full, including the fitting, even though balance for prescription was paid by insurance.

The insurance called the office on my request, but could not do anything about non-covered service. Also, they said that since the covered service was provided, I could not go to another doctor for prescription for glasses. Unfortunately I needed the prescription urgently and could not wait till the conflict was resolved to my benefit, so I ended up giving up to the racket.

Gerry is one of the most underhanded, rude, unprofessional, and deceitful "doctors" I've ever encountered. If there is a problem with billing he has no issue arguing in front of other customers including cursing and making sure you're aware he is right and you are wrong. As with any health-care professional, make sure you check over your insurance statement and bills to verify all of the billing information is correct. There's many eye-doctors in Old Bridge/Matawan to choose from, do your own research first.
