Dr. Sweeney was dismissive and condescending when I expressed concerns about some lab results. She didn’t follow up when I requested a referral and gave me inappropriate, canned diet and exercise advice to manage the condition she assumed I had. Not only had we just discussed how I already ate a healthy diet and exercise regularly, it turns out her diagnosis was wrong. I have since found a physician who has a more up-to-date understanding of the field, instantly recognized what my condition could be, ran some tests, and provided appropriate treatment and follow up. Dr Sweeney can’t recognize that some patients don’t fit perfectly into the most common diagnoses. In medical school, they train doctors to look for horses, not zebras. That’s good advice until you see an elephant wander by.
