My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Kafina for years. The friendliness of his staff waxes and wanes. Sometimes they are great and sometimes not so much. However, he is a knowledgeable, caring, and effective practitioner. I would not hesitate at all in recommending his care.

I have been to 3 appointments so far and I have found them helpful. Dr. Kafina diagnosed my condition very quickly on seeing me and reviewing my several rounds of blood tests. I felt confident in his diagnosis and appreciated his collaborative attitude towards treating my condition.
The 2nd appointment was very helpful and we increased medication dosages based on my continued symptoms. I felt supported and like I was in good hands with the treatment course.
My 3rd appointment was not as good. I felt rushed and he cut off my sentences when I was trying to answer his questions about how I was feeling. I have not responded as quickly to the disease-affecting medications I am on so dosages were increased for those and he wanted me to wean off of the pain-preventing medications. I was concerned what would happen if I did not feel well in weaning off the pain-preventing medicines and his answer was that he'd have me come in and give me one of the big-gun injection medicines and that would make me feel better right away. I felt unsupported because we had agreed upon a slower, methodical approach - trying things first that had fewer side effects before moving to big guns. Within the space of 5 minutes, I felt very uncomfortable with the abrupt change in plans without much explanation. He quickly saw my discomfort and - to his credit - he agreed quickly that we would back off to what I am comfortable with. He did not want me to stress over the medication. At the end of the appointment, I felt much better but it was awkward that his approach/attitude did not seem consistent with my other appointments. I will continue to go to him. I still think he is a good doctor. But I will continue to educate myself on my condition and advocate for what I need and am comfortable with.
