I was referred to Dr. McCone from my Primary Care Physician. My initial appointment with Dr. McCone was very pleasant. Dr. McCone has excellent bedside manner and answers questions and concerns very thoroughly.

My complaints with this practice are the office staff. I found them to be very rude, particularly the young lady that works the front desk at his Oxon Hill office. I was recently scheduled for an 11:15 am appointment, on the day of the appointment they contacted me at home by telephone at 730 am requesting that I appear for my appointment at 1030 am. My wife and I arrived at 1030 am and waited over 2 hours while my folder sat on the front desk. When asked why the wait was so excessive, they advised that they were "behind" and I would be called next. This never happened. I requested a refund of my co-pay and walked out of the office at approximately 1235pm. Not once did the dismissive front desk clerk ask what my concerns were, nor did she refer me to someone to address them.

A 2 Hour wait for a specialist is beyond excessive. The office personnel, specifically the front desk receptionist has absolutely NO respect for other folks' time.

I would strongly advise anyone who values their time, and is not interested in waiting literally HOURS for an appointment time to be honored to go someplace else. The dismissive attitude of the staff, coupled with the ridiculous wait is not worth the effort.

During my appointment, they thoroughly went over all of my questions, and I definitely felt a lot more knowledgeable afterwards. They are so kind and caring. They wouldn't deny anyone that needed help. I know I can always count on them. Just as a side note, I was very impressed with how conveniently located this business was and how close it was to other shopping centers. It was so easy to find, I didn't have any trouble at all. I've never seen anyone who is more respected by their staff. The entire staff only had great things to say about working there, and it made me want to return all the more. Not only were they able to provide everything they promised me, they went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations.

Dr. McCone himself was an alright doctor, but the expeirence (mainly his staff) was horrible.

After showing up for my first appointment I was told that the referral I provided wasn't the one they needed.. If I need another kind of referral I feel that they should have either not scheduled the appointment or called to say to bring a different one with me to the appointment. Because of this I ended up missing the appointment while trying to call back and forth to different doctors to get what I needed.

I rescheduled the appointment with the lady that answers the phone (for 2 weeks later) and when I called close to the date to try to get in sooner (due to severe pain) she said that I didn't even have an appointment. I had to make one for another 2 weeks later.

This time when they called to confirm the appointment was 30 minutes earlier than the time I selected. When I got there (early) I still had to wait over 2 hours before being seen by the doctor.

Every other appointment I've made with them had to be at least 2 weeks in the future and I always had to wait at least an hour to be seen by the doctor no matter now early I arrived.

I would NOT recommend this doctor to a friend (maybe if his other locations turned out to have competent staff).

I am treated as if I am the only patient. They all are very respectful, patient, understanding and there for when. I can call and speak to my nurse or the doctor at any time and receive a call back in a timely manner. Out of all the doctors that I have encountered Dr. McCone and his staff are the best.

I usually do not write reviews for these situations but I figured to inform while also let off some steam.

The positives:
Dr. McCone does an excellent job. He is prepared, well informed, and helps with any questions during the appointment time.
The staff is friendly and courteous during appointment

Overall I never have a problem when I go to my appointment.

Negative:
Prescription refill/authorization

The staff does an absolute horrible job in refilling prescriptions for medicine that requires authorization from them. It sometimes takes days or weeks! My pharmacy would send out multiple fax to the office because of authorization. This happens frequently too. Anytime my refills are up and need authorization, the same problem occurs. As a result, I run out of medicine and some instances I have a flare up from my crohns. The office needs to improve this issue. This week I been trying to get my medicine refilled, and once again...same issue. Now I am out of medicine, have to wait for office to open Monday, and do the same thing all over again. I won't be surprised I will have another flare up from the lack of patient attentiveness.

Here's hoping for improvement.
