I went to have a small bump on my upper right gum looked at. Dr. Harper did a complete exam and said I had condensing osteitis. I asked if I could write that down and he said NO. He said it was a hardening of the bone at my gum line. I asked if he was sure we were looking at the right spot and he said yes, it was mostly on the upper right. I asked if I could show him in a mirror the spot on the upper left that I was concerned about and he refused to verify that we were both looking at the same area. Dr. Harper was difficult to talk to, did not care about the areas I came to see him for, and generally dismissed anything that I said. This was very uncomfortable and just added to an already stressful visit (I thought I was having minor surgery that day). If I am the patient and I am the one paying, I should be allowed to show him the areas of concern that brought me there. It was very unnerving to be dismissed and treated poorly by someone you want to trust who is potentially going to be performing oral surgery on you.
