Dr. Porterfield has done 8 root canals for me and I can recommend him without reservation. He is VERY gentle and makes sure I experience no pain during the procedure. He and his staff are professionals. He explains everything he does in a calm and reasuring manor. Actually, my visits to him are MUCH BETTER (even though its a root canal) than a visit to my regular dentist. If I need additional root canals (God forbid!) I will again drive from Opelika to see Dr. Porterfield!

Had to have multiple root canals in the last year and had one done at Dr. Porterfields office and the others done at other places due to two teeth breaking. Dr. Porterfield was by far the best. I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure and the pain after was minimal. I would never had seen others for root canals if it hadn't been an emergency. No one compared to the comfort and ease. He took time to explain everything step by step and oddly enough I was more relaxed during that procedure than I had been in months.

I am in disagreement with the first review. I have only been to Dr. Porterfield once, but it was the most pleasant experience I have ever had at any dentist. The building is on a busy street, but once you walk inside it is quiet and peaceful. There were 2 secretaries who were very polite and helpful, and I was seen within 10 minutes of my arrival. Dr. Porterfield did not schedule any other patients during that time, so I was immediately seen and he took time to explain my condition to me before continuing with the procedure. He made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and he was both quick and precise. The entire procedure lasted 45 minutes and was completely painless. Thank goodness my insurance covered about 80% of the procedure, so it only cost me about $170. I was in and out of there in no time. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Porterfield. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very professional. Hopefully I won't need to go back to him for another root canal, but if I ever do I actually won't mind going to him.

This was the most unprofessional dentist office I've ever been to. At the beginning of February 2009, I was referred here through Tricare while I was active duty. They never asked for an ID or billing information. When I was seen, the endodontist kept saying that he was uncomfortable performing a root canal even though I was in my second trimester. My main issue was that I kept asking what the risk was and why he was uncomfortable, and he didn't know anything about the risks. I turned out to have a pretty bad infection in that tooth. Over a month later, his office tried to bypass my insurance and bill me directly - $100 to tell me he wasn't comfortable performing a procedure.
