Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

  • 2 cups dark brown sugar

  • ½ cup corn syrup

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 5 quarts popped popcorn

Directions

  • Preheat an oven to 250°F.

  • Melt the butter in a medium sized pan over medium heat.

  • Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt to the pan. While stirring constantly, bring the contents to a boil.

  • When boiling begins, allow contents to boil (without stirring) for approximately 5 minutes.

  • Remove the pan from heat. Add the baking soda, salt, and vanilla and mix well.

  • Place the popped popcorn into a large bowl. Pour the contents of the pan over the popcorn in a thin ribbon. Stir popcorn to coat well.

  • Transfer the popcorn into two shallow baking dishes and put in the preheated oven for one hour. Stir the popcorn every 15 minutes.

  • Remove the baking dishes from oven and allow popcorn to cool.

  • When cooled, break into pieces and serve.
