About Dr. Iqbal

With a deep desire to help and heal humanity, Shumaila Muhammad Iqbal, M.D., found practicing medicine was the way to fulfill this yearning. “Witnessing the suffering of humanity and my innate urge to alleviate it motivated me to pursue a career in medicine,” she says.

Dr. Iqbal graduated from Dow Medical College, Pakistan. She then did residency training in internal medicine at the University of Buffalo, New York, and her rheumatology fellowship training at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Ohio. While she was the first one in her family to become a physician, Dr. Iqbal is proud to be able to mentor several younger family members who have chosen the medical profession.

With a philosophy to make patients feel their health and well-being are her top priority, she practices patient-centered care. Dr. Iqbal says, “I tailor medical treatments to align with my patients' needs, regardless of their race, gender, or religion.”

The specialty of rheumatology allows her to diagnose and treat autoimmune diseases that affect different organs of the body, such as joints, skin, kidney, heart and brain. “These diseases occur when the body's immune system attacks and damages its own tissues,” Dr. Iqbal says. “My interest in solving the mysteries of autoimmune diseases led me to rheumatology.”

As for serving patients, Dr. Iqbal hopes they understand that their health and treatment are her foremost concerns. “I want them to trust in my expertise and dedication to their well-being.”
