In 1972, David became the first blind person admitted to Temple University School of Medicine. He graduated in 1976, completed psychiatric training at the University of Pennsylvania, and practiced in Roanoke for 38 years. An Associate Professor at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, he leads Carilion Clinic's opioid treatment program, focusing on addiction treatment. David conducts research on buprenorphine's effects, holds leadership roles, and advocates for accessibility. He's on the Governor's Advisory Commission on the Opioid and Addiction Crisis and is dedicated to comprehensive patient care. He also champions initiatives for the visually impaired and enjoys reading, music, and family time.
