Tayfun Gurbuz
Dr. Gurbuz graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey. He then completed a five-year General Surgery Residency at Saint Joseph Hospital Medical Center in Denver, CO. He went on to complete a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Dr. Gurbuz’s cardiac and thoracic surgery career has included practice in Tucson, AZ; Anadolu Foundation Hospitals/Johns Hopkins Medicine in Gebze Kocaeli, Turkey; Virginia Mason Medical Center Seattle, WA; and serving as Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport, PA and again at Mercy Heart Center, Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. In 2018, he began providing Locums Tenens services at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Dr. Gurbuz is board certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He has comprehensive clinical expertise and a passion for performing minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve surgery, mitral valve repair and surgery for atrial fibrillation. He also has expertise in aortic aneurysm surgery, including open and endovascular repair techniques and hybrid aortic repair in which surgeons combine the two procedures for more extensive ascending and descending aortic pathology. Dr. Gurbuz was also one of the pioneers of Beating Heart, Off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
