James Korman

James R. Korman, PsyD, ACT, is Service Line Chief of Behavioral Health and Wellness at Summit Health in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. As Chief of Wellness, he is charged with helping address stress and burnout within the organization while working to improve the overall wellness of providers and staff.



Before joining Summit Health, Dr. Korman was Associate Residency Director and Director of Behavioral Science of Mountainside Family Practice Associates at Mountainside Hospital in Verona, New Jersey. His professional experience includes Staff Psychologist at JFK Medical Center in Edison and Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, Director of Psychiatric Inpatient Services for St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, and Director of Counseling and Psychotherapy Associates in Wayne, New Jersey.



Dr. Korman is a fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and a past member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy Board of Directors, a member of the American Psychological Association, New Jersey Psychological Association, Academy of Cognitive Therapy, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the New Jersey Association of Cognitive Therapists, where he served on the organizations steering committee. He is also a certified Cognitive Therapist and Trainer through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.



As a proponent of cognitive therapy, Dr. Korman has delivered local, regional, and national presentations to educate both patients and professionals about the effectiveness of this treatment approach. A gifted teacher, he has supervised and trained medical residents, doctoral interns, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and counselors. He also has helped design and implement competencies that ensure medical residents are adept at interpersonal interaction, communication, professionalism, and patient care and medical knowledge, among other skills.



Dr. Korman’s expertise includes treatment for anxiety, panic, persistent worry, depression, adjustment to life circumstances and medical conditions, chronic pain, and insomnia. He notes, “I work together with my patients to develop realistic and achievable goals in a supportive and collaborative environment. My approach is to utilize the very best evidence-based and effective treatments to target negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that cause and maintain symptoms.”



When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Korman enjoys golfing and flying Cessna single-engine airplanes.
