About

Raymond Vallera

Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

I chose Gastroenterology so that I could focus on a single specialty and its associated problems and diseases. Gastroenterology also allows me to enjoy a range of procedures, and yet have the personal interaction with patients in the clinic and hospital settings.

Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?

I have a particular interest in preventative medicine with an emphasis on screening colonoscopies.

Where did you study?

Undergrad: University of Notre Dame, Internship and Residency: University of Connecticut, Fellowship in Gastroenterology: Duke University Medical Center.

What certifications do you hold?

Board Certified in Gastroenterology.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

My wife, Raphaelle, and I love to work in our garden. We also enjoy traveling with our children and, in particular, visiting with her family in France. I take in an occasional round of golf and, of course, love Notre Dame Football.

Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?

I recently completed the Executive Physician Leadership Course at the SMU Cox School of Business. Throughout my career I have authored several publications, abstracts and poster presentations.
