This is an experience from 2019. So part of Dr Biggerstaff's initial career. Hopefully that changes over time with experience. During a routine visit, she recommended replacing the filling due to a chip - completely understandable, and I agreed. Before starting the procedure, I requested it be done without an injection. She said no - saying I would need it. To clarify - I had absolutely no pain with this tooth. After the filling was removed, she said she had to go too deep, and now it will require a root canal. A $100 procedure now became a $2000 cost!!! On a tooth that didnt give me any trouble. Over the next 10 days the pain and sensitivity on the tooth kept going up, and I had no option but to actually get the root canal done. 1 day prior to root canal treatment, my pain became so unbearable, that had to go to urgent care. The doctor there was surprised that I was not prescribed antibiotics after the procedure to avoid any infection till the root canal was done. During these days, my requests to directly talk to the Dr Biggerstaff were ignored. She kept telling the receptionist that a root canal is needed for my tooth and nothing can be done about it. I went back after root canal to inquire if the nature of root canal treatment done was such that it would require immediate cap (~1000$ cost). Without actually seeing me - she said it was absolutely needed. I ended up switching dentist, and the new dentist did not think it was necessary. Luckily the bulk of the tooth was intact. Basically the whole experience supported the reviews about Aspen Dental that they just have metrics to meet "high cost procedures" and Dr. Biggerstaff being new there, probably has accepted their requirements / guidance to dentist over keeping patients care and well being the priority.
