About

Steven Tucker, MD

Steven W. Tucker, MD is President and Medical Director of Advanced Menstrual Care Center LLC (AMCC - AdvancedMenstrualCareCenter.com). AMCC is the first center of its kind in the United States that specializes in disorders of the menstrual cycle. These disorders include heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), irregular bleeding, painful periods, painful sex, as well as bleeding after menopause.

Common disorders that lead to these problems are also treated at AMCC and include uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis, adenomyosis among others. Dr. Tucker was raised in Baltimore City, the oldest of ten children. When in the sixth grade, he was among the initial group of children who desegregated the Baltimore suburban school system. He was then admitted to McDonogh School as a scholarship student, at a time when it was still a military, all-male prep school. He became co-editor of the school newspaper, The Week and graduated in 1972.

Before graduating McDonogh, he passed three Advanced Placement tests, allowing him to matriculate to Harvard University, entering as a sophomore but with no credits. He then completed his pre-medical studies in just three years. After graduating Harvard, he returned to Baltimore, where he married his grade school sweetheart, Patricia in 1975. She was the cousin of his best friend and they've been together since she was 12 years old and he was 14 years old!

With no honeymoon, he immediately entered medical school. Dr. Tucker has had an interest in biology and medicine since he was 10 years old. This interest was stimulated by his primary care physican, Dr. Uthman Ray. During medical school, Dr. Tucker had an interest in all fields of medicine but elected ob/gyn because he always had a desire to "grow old with his patients." He also had a strong interest in the immediacy and dramatic impact of surgery in resolving patient health problems.

He still feels that Ob/GYN is unique in the combination of surgery and long-term primary care. He has never regretted this choice.

During his career, Dr. Tucker has been employed as an ob/gyn physician in the Air Force, in several multi-specialty group practices, in a solo Gyn practice at Good Samaritan Hospital, and two positions as Chief of Ob/GYN at Washington DC General Hospital and Fallon Clinic in Worcester, MA.

Most recently, Dr. Tucker worked with distinction at Mercy Medical Center until 2018. Dr. Tucker has also enjoyed his experiences as a surgical innovator and entrepreneur. He was among the initial Gyn surgeons who introduced advanced laparoscopy and advanced hysteroscopy surgery in the 1980s. At GBMC, he was one of the very few physicians who was credentialed in all laser systems, including CO2, Argon, KTP and Nd:YAG laser systems. At that time, he formed a company that traveled to hospitals and private physicians around the country to train and operate with physicians.

"What makes me unique: As a Christian, I believe that God is the source of healing through His grace. I pray for my patients and I will pray with them. I have over 35 years experience. I was an early adopter, innovator and entrepreneur in advanced laparoscopy and advanced hysteroscopy. I was among the first group of physicians who recognized the importance of certification in these surgical fields and earned certification in them from the Accreditation Council of Gynecologic Endoscopy. I treat all my patients with sensitivity, empathy and gentleness. I believe that the quality of service is a critical component of the quality of care, and its absence severely limits the actual and perceived quality of care."

My practice philosophy focuses on the provision of care that reinforces a woman's control of her health and wellness through education, counseling and access to the most advanced gyn and obstetric care. My professional interests and skills include advanced laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, alternatives to hysterectomy and office-based alternatives to hospital care.
