Individual Therapy -
With the background of the systems approach and the orientation that solutions to our problems lie within, Mr. Barnes focuses on the individual's personal strengths and resources in the process of therapy. Drawing from a broad foundation of training and experience, Mr. Barnes utilizes an outcome-focused, action oriented approach to individual therapy - with a combination of methods including Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Guided Imagery and Clinical Hypnosis. This approach has proven very effective with numerous presenting concerns and issues, including stress related conditions, mood disorders and problems as well as anxiety concerns. With emphasis on individual strengths and resources, this approach is particularly well suited for work with issues of codependency and resolving issues from the past, including abuse and family dysfunction.
Child, Marriage and Family Therapy -
Mr. Barnes has been engaged in the practice of child, marriage and family therapy in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings for over 30 years. He has trained at the world-renowned Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, as well as with numerous other therapists and trainers in the field. With emphasis on the systems orientation to families, Mr. Barnes combines the most effective of cognitive-behavioral, communications, structural and strategic approaches in work with couples and families. Presenting concerns addressed include interactive conflict, miscommunication, adjustment problems, substance dependence as well as self esteem, attention and behavior problems of children.
Employee Assistance -
Mr. Barnes provides Employee Assistance services by contract with a number of EAP companies who serve the Portland area. These services include assessment and referral as well as brief therapy. DOT/Substance Abuse Professional assessments are also provided.
I am a provider with nearly all of the insurance and Employee Assistance Providers in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington.
