A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with specialized training in mental health.

In order to provide comprehensive care, I will collaborate with your other doctors and mental health professionals. Having your care providers involved and working as a closely integrated team is key to effectively managing your care.

Initial Consultation

All patients will have an initial evaluation. Once the stressors and symptoms are recognized and assessed, we will discuss recommendations regarding your care. An effective relationship with your physician involves aligning expectations with realistic goals. In addition, the relationship should be a good fit for both the patient and the clinician. We will make that assessment upon completion of the consultation. Moving forward, requests will be made for diagnostic tests, I will prescribe medication if warranted, and monitor for symptom remission at scheduled follow up appointments.

Medication Management and follow up
Physical and emotional symptoms are monitored and if required, medication adjustments will be made. This is also a good time to talk about any time-limited discomfort your body may have adjusting to some medications, if it occurs. We will go over how to manage side effects in instances when the benefits outweigh the risks. This is likewise an opportunity to explore other options if appropriate.

Psychotherapy

Therapy is the opportunity to express oneself at a pace that is driven by the comfort level and stress tolerance of the patient. At times, the clinician will offer a perspective to assist the person to target both immediate stressors and underlying elements that can influence the quality of a persons experiences.

Psychotherapy with Medication

This is a combination of both therapy and medication management. The patient will explore stressors, triggers, and deeply imprinted themes, as well as how medication in tandem has affected these experiences.

Group Psychotherapy (Peripartum)

This is a forum for women experiencing Post-Partum or Peri-partum depression and anxiety, and deep personal loss. It is an open-minded, emotionally safe and confidential session to gather with other mothers addressing their challenges. This experience can be a validating and normalizing property of a group. Group space is limited
