Dr. Cool has been treating me for years. He's amazing - and very friendly.

My visit to Dr. Cool was a delight. I'd injured my neck (Sleeping wrong. Duh.) a week and a half earlier. I wasn't getting better, so decided to see a chiropractor. I made a mistake. I went to a chiropractor who was NOT Dr. Cool. ("No Crack" chiropractic) and got a two hour long waste of time and money. For my neck pain she held my head and touched my forehead for an annoyingly long time. She had me deep breath until I was dizzy. Then she had me roll over and put her finger on my coccyx and told me to breath into her finger. (Breath into my butt? Really?) Then she touched my neck and had me breath into her finger. Then she had me sit up and pay fifty bucks and talked about giving me a discount for a long series of treatments to increase my overall wellness. Really? Seriously? What about my strained neck? It' was worse than when I went in!

The next day I went to see Dr. Cool. He asked about my health and what caused my pain and how it was limiting me right at the moment and how it had changed. Then he did a thorough, maybe three or five minute physical exam of my neck, back, and body.

Then he popped my neck. I should say that I'm really kind of afraid of chiropractic popping. I've had it done exactly once before, twenty years ago. The thought of the adjustment made me really, REALLY nervous. But when he was doing it he was gentle and strong and smooth and calm and fast. Yeah. It hurt a little bit. Or maybe I was just startled. But it hurt a lot less than your average hang nail, a LOT less than the neck hurt me if I accidentally turned my head rapidly. And the pain was gone in a fraction of a second. Then he popped my chest region. Once. It was fast, easy, and pain free. Not even very startling. And that was it. Two pops.

I was instantly much, MUCH better.

Dr. Cool told me that there was maybe a five percent chance I'd lock up again, and if I did, I should call him right away. He gave me thorough instructions on neck care (12-24 hours of ice and ibuprofen). He asked until he was sure I understood his instructions. He was very clear on what to do if the pain came back, but told me it was unlikely to. One visit was all I needed.

His office was clean and welcoming. His receptionist (his wife) was professional and polite. He was warm, caring, and reassuring, yet professional and efficient.

Now, about 24 hours later, my neck has barely a memory of its former pain. Sort of like a healing bruise. I can turn my head, ride my bike, sleep the night through . . . I'm better.

I sincerely hope it's another 20 years or more before I need another visit to a chiropractor. If I don't get my wish, though, I'm going to seek out Dr. Cool. And I'm going to recommend him to anyone I can find who needs a spinal adjustment.
