I am a Psychiatrist doubled board certified in Psychiatry and Pain Management. I am a specialist in Pain Pharmacology. Myself and 3 Physician Assistants work as part of HRC-PA, a Behavioral Health group located in Chapel Hill and Raleigh.
Our work is with difficult to treat pain cases, commonly sent to us by other pain practices in the region. We treat, primarily through pharmacology, the complex overlap of pain and mood conditions that afflict most pain patients. We take the time that is needed to sort out both the etiology of the pain and the intermingled emotional issues and find the correct way to assist with these symptoms so that function is restored. This multi-discipline approach has been very successful in returning many people to a satisfying life.

They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I was very satisfied with my visit. They were helpful and I left feeling encouraged. The office was easy enough to find. I will absolutely return. I had an amazing experience, and Dr, Prakken's insight, recommendations and concerns made me feel like he listened to my unique story and did not just group me with, what many practitioners feel, are those hysterial pain patients. As a medical professional I was impressed with the depth of his understanding of the biology of pain and it's various causes, which WERE NOT "it's all in your head." Although he is warm and approachable, and is the most non-psychiatrist like physician I have yet to encounter, the depth of his medical wisdom and research made me feel like I was in the company of a present day medical wunderkind. High Recommend
