My experience at Oakland overall was quite terrible. The staff themselves were more friendly than professional, which I'm not going to complain about in the least bit. The music in the waiting area was a bit unprofessional though, which I didn't care for. I don't want to listen to the lates pop songs from radio stations in a waiting area for a psychological clinic. It just doesn't seem right. Gather from that what you will, I just didn't like it. Your opinion may differ. No problem.

So, I have had a total of 4 appointments with the counselor(Karen Koval) and 1 evaluation appointment with Dr. Nagy Kheir.

The first 3 appointments with Karen were mostly paperwork. But I should've gathered how things were going to work out with her when on the first appointment she tells me she's from a ministry and later decided to start a debate with me over my thoughts. When I fired back with a rebuttal to counter her statement, she told me she wasn't going to have a debate with me and that I was wrong. How does someone start a debate, tell you that you're wrong, and not allow you to give your opinion?

The evaluation with Dr. Nagy Kheir was probably the most uncomfortable appointment in my entire life. The man was absolutely cold and didn't really seem to care what-so-ever. Considering the fact that I rated my depression very low on a scale of 1-10, he said "I think you require a high-dosage antidepressant." Amazing. Sees my low depression rating, talks to me for about 15 minutes, and tells me I require a high dosage? What in the hell.

My very last appointment with Karen Koval, was my trying to tell her how I felt about the evaluation with the doctor, her saying that "He can be like that sometimes," her starting an argument with me telling me "No, you don't argue with me," talking to me like I'm 10 years old, and again, not allowed to have an opinion. I tell her, "How about not f*cking arguing with me?" Once the F-word came out, she 'angrily' told me(and pointed with grand authority) to get out of her office and that I would have to call CMH to find another provider as I was no longer welcomed there. Without argument, I complied and told her to have a nice day.

Here's a little history: I've been seeking services since around 2005, and I've seen many, many counselors(Approx. less than 10), and 4 doctors total.
Out of those counselors, Karen Koval has been the "ONLY" counselor I could even consider giving the title of "nut job" to. The fact that a counselor can give you her opinion, but outright tells you that you're wrong and refuses to let you give her your opinion, is astonishing to say the least.

My first doctor, Dr. Khan, was kind of an egocentric man, and always felt like his opinions were correct, but at least the man worked with you, even if he did treat me like a guinea pig with medications.

My second doctor, whom I can't remember her name, I've only had 1 appointment and that was for an evaluation. Everything went smooth as silk. She was kind, compassionate, understanding, the works. Everything you would expect from a good person in general.

My third doctor, Dr. Cathrine Jawor, pretty much the same as the second doctor only to a little lesser degree. Still however, an amazing doctor.

My fourth doctor, Dr. Nagy Kheir... Cold, discompassionate, uncaring, irritated, etc... etc... The moment I sat down at his desk, I was absolutely uncomfortable feeling. His tone of voice, facial expressions, and even posture told me that he just... did not care. I have never felt so awkward or uncomfortable with anyone in my life as I did with Dr. Nagy Kheir. Not even with job interviews.

If it were just Karen Koval, I would tell you to just avoid her and find someone else, but considering that Dr. Nagy Kheir is the only doctor there, I'm going to tell you to avoid Oakland Psychological Clinic (Fraser), at all costs. Or get a counselor other than Karen Koval and find your own doctor.

Thanks for reading. I hope you found my review helpful and heed the advice of avoidance.

I was in counseling with Richard Pichotino for about 6 months and during that time with the help of Dr. Prasad's medicine my life has turned around and had been much more enjoyable and enjoying life to the fullest. Unfortunatley a few months later and i'm now returning to get counseling with Christy, I hope that with her help and some medicine my depression and anxiety can be healed. Its a good place here, you should give it an oppurtunity.
