Dr. Watanabe is simply the best! I've been a loyal client for about 27 years. He absolutely LOVES animals and it shows in his care. The dogs in the waiting room absolutely LOVE Dr. Watanabe too. They will bark, pull on their leash, or wave their paws to get his attention. He will always say something to the dog and gives them treats prior to their appointment. He is extremely smart, intuitive, and knowledgeable. When my dog Satchmo, a schnauzer mix, got cancer, Dr. Watanabe went to UCLA and the City of Hope to talk to their cancer researchers and was able to obtain an experimental cancer drug that cured my dog's initial cancer! He did all of this on his own time and at no charge to me. Also, I can't tell you how many times he has stayed after hours to perform emergency surgery (twice for me). When I've had to put down my terminally ill dogs due to suffering, he is visible upset and has even shed a tear or two.

You do have to be prepared to wait up to an hour for an appointment, but that's because he spends all the time you need with your animal, so it's worth the wait. Besides I have to wait an hour to one and a half hours to see my own doctors! His prices seem reasonable and the increases over the years are primarily due to outrageous increases in laboratories' costs and medication prices.

I don't mean to discount everyone else that works in the office; every single employee is wonderful! Dr. Sakamoto is fantastic and is an excellent addition to the clinic. He used to be a pet assistant for Dr. Watanabe as a teenager. I always feel torn trying to choose between my 2 favorite vets! Mary is the office manager and has worked for Dr. Watanabe for as long as I've been a client. She is kind, efficient, and writes the most wonderful condolence cards - really! Lorreen has worked for Dr. Watanabe over 20 years and puts up with me mispronouncing her name. Mark has worked for him for almost as long and I can easily pronounce his name plus he happily carries whatever I need to my car! It's very unusual in this business to see long term employees, but that reflects how wonderful Dr. Watanabe is! I can't say enough about every single employee! Everyone is compassionate, informed, and helpful. I have never seen anyone say an unkind word or show disrespect to anyone. I could write much, much more, but my dog is currently pacing, waiting to be fed!

Dr Watanabe was suggested to me for treatment of my pet that needed a dental procedure done. I went to the appointment that was made at his office expecting 1 long wait inc the procedure 2 the cost to be something that I was not going to be able to pay for in that visit ultimately I was wrong in both my asumptions. The procedure took the Dr all of about 10 min and what I was charged I could definitely live with. I am only comfortable with this Dr and his abilities to treat properly what he deals with daily without errors. So from my perspective that makes the difference in cost and outcome the bottom line.
