I thought he was over the moon! I hope and pray I am not wrong. I had an awful experience before him.

This vet gets NO STARS from me. I took my cat in because she had a bad wound on her head just below her ear. Before Dr. Kussmaul even saw her, he sent a tech in with a bill for $327. I told her that I had been able previously to pay my larger bills in two installments,. She went to ask the doctor, and he said no. I have done this several times in the last fifteen years when the bill was over $200. I had no choice but to leave my kitty because she had to be treated or the infection was so bad that it would kill her.
I came to pick her up that afternoon and said I needed to talk to Dr. Kussmaul about her treatment when I got her home,
When he came in, I did ask about what I needed to do. I then had a conversation with him about not being able to pay the bill in two installments, He mumbled something about having to pay taxes, etc. in December. So I said that if I had brought my kitty in July, then I could have paid it out. He said, after much looking at everywhere but me that I should look into Care Credit and did I have good credit. (None of his business.) I asked him point blank that if someone came in with their sick kitty or puppy would he treat them if their pet parents could not pay him. He hemmed and hawed for a few seconds and then said that he had to be paid for his services. I said, "So you would let them walk out with a pet who was about to die and just let them die?" He said they could go to places where they gave free treatment. I said, "Where would you send them for free treatment for a dying animal?" He could not come up with a single place for poor people to go with their dying pets.
I thanked him for being my vet for fifteen YEARS and told him he would never see me again.
I had just seen absolutely amazing and shocking greed in a man who has taken care of my eight pets for fifteen years. It was not a pretty sight.
If you have anything more than vaccinations that you need for your pet, I would strongly recommend that you steer clear of Dr. Kussmaul. I suppose that vets don't take anything like the Hippocratic Oath, but shouldn't they at least care more about animals than they do about making sure you can pay whatever inflated bills they present? I believe they should.
