Unbelievable experience while making the tough choice to put my cat to sleep after she was injured. I took her to Crossroads when she first came home and I found she was hurt. They could do nothing but take a couple xrays and send me to Mass referral vet hosp. I didn't want to go to mass, so I asked around and was recommended to another vet, that sent me to manchester animal hospital who again said there was nothing they could do and recommended me to mass. After taking her to Mass, it was recommended that they amputate her leg. She is an outdoor cat, came from a feral environment. She would not be safe outside any longer and the other option was to 'attempt' to repair but the outcome was not good and we would still need to amputate.

Taking all the info into consideration I decided, heartbreaking, that she would be put down. I made the appointment and brought princess in. I was crying when I arrived, they ushered me to the private room used for this purpose. The dr came in and told me I had another option...I said what is that?? She said "We will Take princess, perform the surgery, then rehome her to a family that would understand the financial responsibility of a 3 legged cat." REALLY!?!? I explained that princess was an outdoor cat and that amputation would be cruel for her. Again she insisted she could do the surgery and rehome her. Shes such a good cat. NO KIDDING!! Does she not realize what a horrifying decision this was?? You want to TAKE my cat and GIVE her to someone else!?!? I was already hurting SO bad and she basically sucker punched me in the gut.

I can not get over how CRUEL that was to say during one of the most difficult times of my life. I was so upset and hurt already and what she said after going to multiple vets, getting multiple opinions and agonizing over it for several days was so painful I thought I was going to pass out. I literally saw stars and had to sit down.

I will NEVER again go to this hospital. I will NEVER again recommend anyone to them. The vet, McCarthy was a cold-hearted, non-compassionate, judgmental jerk at a time I needed compassion. How could she do that? What type of Vet does that during such a hard time. I was so upset when I left, I ended up sobbing on the side of the road for 1/2 hour.

It has been 2 days, I still cry myself to sleep and wake up with tears over what I had to do and the way I was treated when I had to do it.

Dr McCarthy, you should be ashamed of yourself. I am ashamed that I ever trusted you with my pets to begin with.
