The staff consisted of a receptionist who is very personable on the phone but very distant in person, and a super sweet nurse that tried hard to remember me as an individual. Dealing with the nurse was very pleasant. Unfortunately, it is Dr. Proffitt who makes all the decisions. He is a victim of having practiced too long. He assumes he knows what every patient is thinking and has complete disregard for their individual concerns.
Making the decision to have breast augmentation is difficult because of all the options (that essentially become permanent) and the very real issue of pain. You worry if you'll be happy with the size, shape, feel, and "performance" of the resulting breasts. In regards to these concerns, Dr. Proffitt is very good at helping you make an informed decision. He alerted me to how close they can be positioned due to my natural rib structure and how tear-shaped implants can rotate and distort breast shape. But what he would not address were my concerns about low pain tolerance and fear of keloid scar formation.
I had surgery on Thursday morning and left the surgery center feeling fine. However, when the anesthesia wore off, my hell began. I felt like a stuffed turkey at thanksgiving that was simultaneous being sat on by an elephant. My pain was so bad, I could not breathe comfortably, sleep or eat. When I asked him for more pain medicine, he looked at me like I was a drug seeker stalking the ERs for vicodin prescriptions. The idea that I would spend over five thousand dollars, risk complications and death, and give up 10 days of vacation time for some pain pills is absolutely ludicrous. I am so angry at him for making me suffer such miserable pain unnecessarily.
Two weeks after surgery, I am doing much better in regards to pain. Unfortunately, my scar has begun to keloid. I bring this up to Dr. Proffitt's attentional the follow up appointment and request steroid injections to stop the scar from expanding. Instead, he waves me off and tells me that it will improve as time passes. I am now 2 months out of surgery with well formed breasts underlined by hideously thick dark scars. I have scars from orthoscopic surgeries that date back seven years...they have not gone away. I guess this means I have at least just as long to forward to having these scars under my breast.
