Dr. Rosa is a pioneer in researching how whiplash and upper cervical injuries can be documented on MRI. His expertise in using the MRI as a diagnostic then using the atlas orthogonal technique to help people struggling with whiplash/head trauma related injuries is well documented on the internet. He helped high profile athletes and has patient testimonials on his website. However his treatment is by no means a miracle for all, and in my case it greatly worsened my health.

After three years of suffering from terrible headaches and concentration problems from a sports related head injury, I was diagnosed with cerebellar tonsillar ectopia. As a "non-invasive" alternative to surgery I was referred to Dr. Rosa because of stories of success with similar cases. I went in optimistic, being told he would very lightly adjust my atlas bone into proper alignment which would allow for improved CSF flow and alleviation of symptoms.

I was told I would feel some discomfort in my neck that would lessen as my muscles adjusted to being in alignment, and that I should feel my headache and cognitive symptoms begin to dissipate. I was told some patients feel better immediately after treatments and others take days to a few weeks to begin to feel better, the important thing was that I hold my alignment.

I was not warned about the risk of severe neck pain that in my case accompanied the procedure. I lost my initial adjustment after two weeks but the neck discomfort remained. Neck pain was not an issue for me prior to being treated. I was adjusted two more times. The last time I held my adjustment for seven weeks but I saw no improvement in my headaches or concentration issues and I could not function normally in order to stay in alignment. My neck was always sore and in pain. I would have to lay down for 10-15 minutes every few hours, and constantly be wearing a neck collar.

After coming out of alignment for the last time I developed a very uncomfortable difficulty swallowing that accompanied my neck pain. Dr. Rosa only told me that I needed to be adjusted again but at this point I could no longer invest time, money and effort into a treatment that had only made me worse.

I am aware that Dr. Rosa has greatly helped many people. But for me and the four other patients I met at his clinic none of us found the improvement we hoped for. And in my case my situation was made much worse. Beware of the risks before undertaking this procedure, it is non-invasive but can be very harmful.
