I recently applied for a position with the city. Unfortunately Woodhaven Counseling Associates was contracted to do the required Psych exam required for job candidates currently in the pipeline. This process isn't new to me at all for I have taken several in my lifetime (all passing, including the ones after deployments), I hold a secret security clearance for the government, and have been overseas numerous times, always returning with a clean bill of health. I had recently received a 'passing' psych exam from a different counseling center with a neighboring city for the same career field. I received a call from what was supposed to be my future employer who told me that I failed the psych exam I had take at Woodhaven. The Doctor shall remain nameless for obvious reasons.

Woodhaven does an excellent job from a legal standpoint to shield them from any lawsuits or just simply from having to work (i.e., basis for the results). For example, I signed almost half a dozen documents of paperwork stating that the results of the exam are confidential to me, but you must disclose it to the department, you will not know your results nor the basis, it can't be contested, etc... I feel after months of going through the application process, that I should at least have an answer as to why I failed, especially since I passed the same test almost two weeks before. I ask myself how subjective this so called psychiatrist is and what particular subject in the pseudoscience field did he specialize in. I guess the clients Woodhaven evaluates paid by the city makes the job of a pseudo psychiatrist easy....test results: 'FAIL' and no explanation required.

Prior to my results I heard from several people in the department that the particular doctor is of very questionable character and has been the butt of many jokes for years, which was certainly clear after I sat down with him, evident by his foul mouth and inappropriate bashing of a particular department of the City of Omaha. He wasn't very professional, but he did have a wry sense of humor.

On a personal note, the place is hard to find (you'll see). I was scheduled for 9:00 AM, and like usual, I show up 20 minutes early. The pseudo-psychiatry place (Woodhaven) didn't even open until 9:00, and the employees didn't even acknowledge me as I was waiting by the door. I could go into many examples, but I feel this is very important: As I was taking the questionnaire which literally consisted of around 1000 questions or so, several times the secretary would just come right in to the controlled test area, shoving files in drawers, slamming the door should, which made it very difficult to take the test. The environment was certainly uninviting and the City of Lincoln should be ashamed of themselves to lower there standards to have a business like this control the pipeline for city job candidates.

If I would have went there on my own dime, I'm sure I would have gotten excellent results which could have been used for any other employment opportunity if applicable. But when it is the city's dime, you receive no feedback, have no course of action, and basis for the findings so just shut up and deal with it. That is Woodhaven in a nutshell. A business that cares....but only if you pay them I'm sure.

Every time I come here they always remember me by name and greet me as soon as I walk in the door, even if it's been months since my last appointment. They are so thoughtful and amazingly sweet, I just love this place. I appreciated that they were still concerned about my health even after I left the office. They followed up with me after my appointment and everything. They've never dismissed any of my concerns as unimportant, and take every concern of mine very seriously. I'm definitely going to recommend them to all my friends and family members. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better.
