Update-having problems in my marriage, I am thankful for his listening deeply & his Zen instruction. Problems from my past & my marriage (my marriage therapy) respectfully addressed by him in a way that that has helped me tremendously. Seven months after my last review I would upgrade my rating, but one cannot give more than 5 stars!

I have been working with Tom Jones as his client/patient for over a year (first in marriage therapy and then as an individual). He is the finest therapist I have worked with, and I have worked with a few, some of those for extended time over the years. He has many years of experience (his credentials are at his website under Psychology Today's profiles). He does both counseling and psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is about, in part, going back to deep-rooted past experiences and few therapists dare to do that and it is very hard work for the patient too.
I found that I never felt disdained by him. If you do feel uncomfortable you realize that he is making you feel that way on purpose - for a reason - that always you are valuable as a person and you are in very competent hands with him - not that he is some superhuman doctor but someone who deeply understands suffering and how to grow from that. You can just make appointments for counselling (e.g. life-coaching) but if you chose to do it, psychotherapy of your past may be the most painful thing you ever do, but it works. At least it has for me. Tom is also is a Zen practitioner and Zen teacher. I have found his Zen instruction and my learned practice of it invaluable for me and a helpful part of therapy.

I was apprehensive to see a male therapist (I am female and have found some male therapists overbearing, etc.) but that fear was unfounded as he has such an open mind and can see and comprehend people's pain. Reading the other person's review here I can see the viewpoint - the office air-conditioner did break down last summer. He also sometimes uses speech mirroring - so if he said the word "fat" it is likely that the patient introduced the term. As for cussing- people don't usually cuss around me, maybe because of my persona, but some people do slip up. I don't think that is something to wither over- just say "I don't appreciate that language" and generally people never do it again.

Again - Tom Jones has a lot of experience, he is human and understands the human condition and how to help. He is a really good listener. Someone to trust and, if one is open to it, learn from --- especially regarding the Zen meditation.
