I am sorry to give negative reviews and usually like to not say anything at all, but I feel this warrants a "caveat emptor" warning to others! I had some sessions with Ms. Cohen and felt as the weeks went on that we were hitting a wall. There was no true structure to her sessions, no goal setting, identification of problems and nothing truly professional about it. Although, it was initially nice to have someone to talk to it soon fizzled out. It was like having a conversation that is random and all over the place. I found her often not paying attention, or was distracted to take out her dog, or accepting a text while in session with me. I also felt on occasion she was dozing off to sleep! She often interjected her political views and discussed her own issues. It is okay that a therapist use personal experience in tandem with helping someone but to use if for their own purpose is not appropriate. Additionally, there was a billing discrepancy that I gently addressed with her and she became defensive. I thought she had a billing agent and it was a mistake, however she does the billing. I requested a billing statement and she never sent that to me. I wrote down on my calendar our session times as they varied. When I went to check the claims submission for something else I noticed she billed for a few sessions that were not provided due to her computer issues or cancellation by me. I felt this was unethical especially since she made no disclosure. She often would comment that she was getting very little reimbursement from insurance and with that in mind, I felt her heart was not in this so I decided to end our sessions. I am a nurse and have worked with professionals for several years and this was not a therapeutic interaction overall. I am feeling that Ms. Cohen is tired doing this and maybe now its time to retire but can't.
