TROUBLE SLEEPING? If you have trouble falling asleep or have problems staying asleep, I can help.

TREATMENT APPROACH

What Is The Most Effective Treatment for Chronic Insomnia?

The New England Journal of Medicine, the American Psychological Association, and the National Institutes of Health recommend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as the preferred treatment for insomnia. CBT utilizes several strategies that address the contributing factors related to chronic insomnia.

How Does CBT Work?

CBT works by changing the learned thoughts and behaviors that cause insomnia. By unlearning these patterns you can sleep again more easily.

Could I Benefit From CBT?

CBT will help if you have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early in the morning, or if you wish to reduce or eliminate sleep medications.

Seventy five percent of insomnia patients experience significantly improved sleep using CBT techniques, with the majority becoming normal sleepers again. It has consistently been found to be more effective than sleeping pills, and most patients treated with CBT actually reduce or eliminate sleeping pills altogether.

What Is Expected Of Me In Treatment?

You will play a very active role in your treatment. Essentially, you will learn about sleep and be an investigator of your own sleep. You will keep records of your sleep patterns and other factors such as stress and physical symptoms. The majority of people who are consistent with the various components of treatment have successful outcomes.

What Can I Expect?

A thorough clinical assessment will help determine what is affecting your sleep and daytime functioning. A treatment plan will be developed that best suits your needs.

Treatment will focus on:
Changing sleep thoughts and behaviors,
Changing lifestyle habits,
Learning relaxation techniques that help in falling and staying asleep.

Treatment usually lasts between five and eight sessions in order for you to get good sleep and to help you continue to sleep well. Ongoing measures will be used throughout the process to insure that it is effective and that you are getting the highest level of clinical care.

Services "5 Stars. Fantastic. I am so glad Rick has finally opened a private practice. Rick has put in years with many of the most difficult scenarios, both as a therapist and also while running programs and he has not let his success rate go to his head. He is one of the most humble fellows I know. I have to declare that I've never seen Rick for treatment, but I imagine people encountering Rick's gentle manner are likely also to find him a source of help".

"5 Stars. I worked with Rick on a daily basis for over 10 years. We treated the same patients, and I saw him interact with very unhappy and troubled people day after day. He listened, he empathized, and he helped people move on with their lives. He's very easy to talk to, very patient, and he always seemed to understand what people needed to deal with their problems".
Gerald F., MD

"5 Stars. Rick is a great therapist. He's incredibly experienced, he's easy to talk to, very real, practical down to earth and has a great sense of humor. Top recommendation!"
