My dog sliced her leg open on a piece of tin when I let her out to go to the bathroom one evening. The slice was extremely deep, severing a major blood vessel and she was bleeding profusely. This poor excuse for an animal doctor refused to allow us to bring her in, despite the fact that his facility has treated several of our animals for YEARS (several different animals) and the fact that we have spent literally hundreds upon hundreds of dollars with him over the years. Even after explaining to him the severity of the cut and how my dog was bleeding profusely (she would not have made it until morning without stitches and something to clamp the vessel and stop the bleeding) he still was of no help whatsoever. We wound up having to drive 25+ miles to the next emergency vet's office in McKenzie, TN.
