Cliff was very dedicated and diligent as a counselor. If we brought up a book we had seen, he would read it. He truly tried to understand our issues and would take the extra time with us to do so. One thing I had wished was that he recommended reading his book before we got started so we would see where he was going with techniques better. But maybe that's because I'm a reader.

Cliff is a kind and caring individual who came highly recommended. When, after the fact, I asked one of the recommenders, another health care professional, what the basis for his recommendation was, I got nothing but a blank stare. Dr. Notarius is well known and respected within the academic and counseling community, but I found him far from effective. He was often VERY difficult to understand, using concepts and professional jargon that I found very hard to comprehend, let alone use as a basis for changing my behaviors. We seemed to spend countless hours go over events of the past week, though I have the sense that Dr. Notarius cares very little about the "content" of these disputes. Besides the venting, there was very little that I would call therapy. Cliff is a good teacher, but I think what we needed was more of a coach. If he did suggest that we focus on something in a given week, it was very rare that he followed up.
