Unless you suffer with anorexia, I wouldn’t recommend Remuda. I struggle with Binge Eating Disorder, and on their website, they say that they have a binge eating disorder program. I was not impressed during my 8 week stay from December 2011 to February 2012. I stayed in their residential care program in Chandler, AZ. I found that the program was very general, and more geared towards the majority of their patients who are anorexic. I got lost in the crowd. They leave you with full access to the food, and there is very little to no monitoring. For a binge eater, that is the last thing a treatment program should do. There was also very little supervision for the bulimia as well, and the patients continued purging throughout their stay. I continued bingeing throughout my stay there, because I could. It was not very well regulated. I’m also pre-diabetic, and they did nothing to take that into account for my treatment. They blatantly told me, “We don’t deal with that kind of stuff here,” yet they call themselves THE hospital for eating disorders. If something comes up, and you need to talk to one of you care providers, half of the time they aren’t even on site.
Every week we also had things called restaurant and snack challenge, where we’d go to a restaurant or little snack place and we were tasked with the assignment to pick something off the menu that wasn’t low-fat, light, or diet, and we were required to eat at least half of it. Well for a binge eater, that’s not a problem, but I was still held to the same rules as the anorexics. So every time we went out, I sat at the table with the biggest portion because, technically I was following the rules. They GAVE me excuses to binge. It was a terrible experience. Since I left I’ve gained more weight and I’ve dealt with none of the issues.
If you’re bulimic or a Binge eater, don’t go here.
