Apria is very difficult to do business with. Their phone lines are often busy for long periods of time, requiring frequent call attempts to get through. When you do get through, you can wait for long periods of time to reach a live body. I have been trying to resolve a problem with an unsafe piece of medical equipment they sold me in January of 2013. It is now November and no resolution yet. Twice I've spoken to the Branch Mgr., Richard Hoertz. Each time he promises to look into the matter and get back to me. Each time he fails to follow up and he doesn't seem to ask anyone else to check into it either.

Apria sold me a "crutch replacement," a rolling device you kneel on when you are having problems with your foot or knee. They were supposed to deliver it on 1/16, but called to leave a message saying the delivery driver was on his way on 1/9, a full week early. The problem was that I was out of town and unable to be there for the delivery. It took about 10 call attempts until I was able to call back the El Segundo office. One of my neighbors accepted the delivery, for which I had prepaid. When I got home, I noticed that the device has a large tag on it indicating that it shouldn't be given to a patient without proper training on its use. As I wasn't home when it was delivered, no training was given or offered.

I had foot surgery the following week and required the use of the device to get around when out of the house (I have trouble with crutches). It seemed to run away with me and could only be used with hands on both breaks at all times. I asked Apria to replace or adjust the unit. The tech they sent out did absolutely nothing, saying he wasn't familiar with that piece of equipment. I made frequent calls after that trying to get them to replace or repair the unit. I was told that, since they had sold me the unit rather than renting it, there was nothing they could do. As a result, I wasn't able to use the device. It just wasn't safe. I only used it 3 times. I finally showed it to a local handyman. It only took him a minute or two to determine the problem. The unit is unbalanced; one of the wheels doesn't even touch the ground. This means that it runs on 2 instead of all 3 wheels; certainly not safe for a post-surgical patient. And, Apria, who specializes in medical equipment, doesn't seem to care.
