My brother and I took 3 of our cats to Ashland Animal Clinic on November 16th, 2021 for a spay and two neuters. When we got inside to check in, the receptionist started us off with paperwork but then took a phone call and ignored us, so I had to get another lady's attention. We only authorized bloodwork for my female cat since her spay was invasive. After the paperwork, we left, and after 3 hours, I got a phone call from Dr. Lisa Williams. The first thing she told me was that, as soon as she administered anaesthesia to my female cat Bones, she stopped breathing and her team had to breathe air into her to bring her back to life, so they didn't continue her procedure. She even admitted that Bones was the third cat that had problems with her dosages that day, and they had only been open for 3 hours. Then she told me Carby (my 6 mo old boy at the time) died. I started crying really hard and asking "What the f***?!" because it was unbelievable that she managed to screw up the simplest veterinary procedure so badly that she killed my baby. She corrected herself and said it was Neal (my brother's cat) who passed away. I was devastated since she made me think my baby was dead and then telling me my brother's cat was dead. I called her a murderer. I hung up and video called my friend in tears and asked him to take me to get them out of that hell hole. I cried and wailed the whole way there, thinking about how awful it must have been for Neal to die in some strange, scary place away from his family, and for reasons I still don't have answers for. When we arrived, Lisa Williams came out looking nervous and immediately started suspiciously giving the most random excuses. She expressed that she didn't know what happened, that his surgery went well but he died in the rest area when left unattended. She claimed that "all his bloodwork came back fine," even though we specifically said no to having Neal's blood taken. So, either she ran unauthorized bloodwork or that was a lie she told me to get me to stop crying. She began fumbling for possible reasons for his death, including "a genetic condition," "something with the liver," "a bad reaction to the anaesthesia" (even though he was fine for the whole procedure before they left him to die). I blubbered that she killed him and her eyes darted back and forth from me to my friend, uttering some "uhs" while visibly searching for something to say. She talked over me to my friend in an attempt to cover her own @$$ while I wept. She never even said sorry. The only respectable thing she did was not charge us for the 1/3 successful procedures and let me keep the cat carrier Bones was in, in which she just sat in the corner traumatized from almost dying from an easy surgery. Bones was severely depressed when we got home. I decided to enact my revenge the proper way by filing a complaint with the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners. The case worker initially said that "we had something here" and that he would do his best to help me receive justice for Neal's mysterious death. However, when Lisa was contacted for her side of the story, she lied about multiple things on the report. She claimed (and I'm typing this directly from the report) that she "checked Carby for FELV/FIV... This was the only bloodwork I did, and this was after the first phone call." She said in another point that "I didn't do bloodwork on all the cats just the FELV/FIV on Carby. I talked to the other owner, his sister had him very upset." So she admits that she did not do bloodwork on Bones (the only cat authorized to have it) and then didn't even ask me to run it on Carby when she had me on the phone. And no $hi+ my brother was upset. Another bullet point on the report reads, "I wanted to see if they wanted to find out what happened." Now, this is just a bold-faced lie. She never offered to find the reason for Neal's passing, only threw out vague possibilities. She treated him like another dead cat who isn't her problem. In another attempt to reach a conclusion, she told my brother over the phone that it could have been "heart disease." Lisa had two coworkers try to back her up, Kelsey Berry, Lead Technician, and Anne Massard, Veterinary Technician. During Kelsey Berry's interview, she lied, saying "The client opted out for any bloodwork prior to surgery." Anne Massard, even though she didn't speak with me, said I was "very upset and ugly...very harsh." The last thing she said was a complete lie: "I was the person who made the original appointment a week earlier and they were difficult then and even rude. I was not there when they picked up the cats, but I was told they behaved very dramatically." No one in this place wants to take accountability. They manipulated my case worker and tried to make me look like the bad guy so they can keep their jobs that they don't deserve. What's really going to be "ugly" is the karma they will receive from all their lies and malpractice. I hope I can see the aftermath.
