Yoga Class and Workshop Descriptions

Hatha Blend Yoga: a unique approach to integrating different yoga disciplines at teachers discretion to create an eclectic experience.

Hatha Yoga: will emphasize the foundations of alignment, breath, flexibility, stamina, vitality and the use of ones core. No two classes will be the same.

Restorative Yoga Movement: bringing recuperation to your organs, nervous system and consciousness. Long holds, props and breathing techniques may be used to allow the breath and the body to open. Pregnancy welcomed in this class!

Vinyasa Flow: a vigorous demanding discipline of yoga which links breathe with movement through a heat building sequence of postures for the physically active.

Yin Yoga: a slow deep stretch that targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and spine. Postures are held for longer periods of time (3 to 5 minutes) facilitating a deeper opening. Combined with a meditative atmosphere this class is extremely relaxing.

Yin Yang Yoga: a blend of stretching the connective tissue (joints) characterized by postures held for several minutes yin. Complimented with yang in which the second half of the class you are flowing through the poses to create a balanced practice.

Gentle Yoga: focus is on stretching the entire body and working the muscles in a gentle manner. These movements in connection with breath aid in circulation and relieve tension in the body and mind.

Big Bear Lake is lucky to have such a great space for yoga and healing. Equada Yoga has been open over a year, and provides top teachers, especially considering that Big Bear is a small resort town. They even bring in a teacher all the way from Los Angeles! Every single class I have taken at Equada Yoga has been delightful. I love the slower classes, more restorative and healing since I had an injury last year. All of the teachers I have taken from can make accommodations for severe limitations, like people who can't get up/down from the floor and would be better sitting in a chair. The teachers who provide those classes are extremely knowledgeable about the body, injury and injury recovery. I have learned so much taking classes at this studio about yoga and the breath. They do offer students time to meditate and breathe, if that is what you want. If not, you can do the physical yoga practice only. They also provide more flow classes for a good work-out too! The teachers really focus on the student listening to their own body and going at a pace that is comfortable with them. They have private classes and sometimes fun workshops - one was partner yoga, another time a belly dancing yoga class! As a special event sometimes they have live music, like drumming. The energy is fun and relaxed. The studio is welcoming - it is a great way to meet people in the area and make friends. The studio is a good size, and can accommodate about a dozen students. They offer props to borrow if needed at first, and then encourage you to get your own mat. The space is carpeted, with a clean bathroom. Often they light candles. There is a beautiful mural on the wall, and the space is very inviting. I highly recommend this studio for "locals" and for friends visiting the mountain. I have found it is a great way to relax after a day on the lake or skiing on the mountain. I can't rave enough about this studio and teachers - this is the best of the best!
