It was difficult, but I did arrange respite care for my husband at Serenity House on Miramonte. I know people who loved Serenity House for they actively dying loved ones. However, I needed respite, and it was sorrowful. My husband was bed bound, but mentally alert, liked to watch the Dodgers and the evening news, read the daily paper and have a cocktail with the evening news. with special permission, I provided the cocktails-he never got one. The staff, tho I'm sure are good hearted, just didn't deal with his needs. I had the LA Times delivered there for the week - he never saw one. They didn't tune the tv for the news or baseball. He was in much worse shape after the week I left him there. I was so sorry I did it.
