Bad experience here at New London rehabilitation facility. If possible, do NOT transfer a family member into New London on a weekend when medication access is severely restricted and the physician on call seems to not be called when problems arose with our family member. Our family transferred our family member ASAP-- days after being admitted.--to another facility that really underscored how good a facility could be. Family member/patient was very scared about the care. Assigned nurse seemed, in our family's opinion, to be intentionally inattentive because of or family's presence and questions. Other staff members were agitated by what their nurse co-worker was doing and not doing. There were decidedly compassionate people on the staff, but there seemed to be a "punch the clock" mentality with some CNA's. This review is based on experience on the weekend. During the regular work week, the staff was noticeably better on all counts. But, in our family's view, the stress on our family member and ourselves ruled out staying just for the Mon-Fri staff experience. The prospect of going through another weekend with all the stress and concerns was not worth staying.
Perhaps there have been changes in the oversight on the weekends. Our family's advice would be to do some due diligence with visits, if at all possible, on the weekend and nights to see what is really going on when visitors are really not around.
BTW, do not expect the food for the patient to be really that palatable. Food is closer to a bad school cafeteria's offerings.
We hope this public review can be a catalyst for the owners to make needed changes. No resident nor rehab patient should be subjected to what we saw in those few days.
As for the New London staff that takes their job seriously and with compassion and understanding, this review is not directed at you. You know who you are and how you do your job. And thank you.
