From the bottom of my heart, I cannot tell anyone reading this how much good Dr. Collins has done for me. I suffered from severe depression for years, untreated, largely because I was too embarrassed and afraid I would not find a psychiatrist who would be both understanding and intelligent.

My first visit with Dr. Collins was a revelation: I felt so comfortable explaining my story and what was wrong. After taking a long history, by hand, herself, she put me on a different medication than the previous two doctors I had seen, and which worked wonders for me. Psychiatry is as much art as science; it can be so hard to predict what medications will work best (eg: Prozac vs Paxil vs Celexa vs Lexapro). For me it was Celexa, and I 've never looked back.

She is so compassionate and unlike a lot of doctors, she remembers from visit to visit what's going on in your life, what's been affecting you, etc. I wanted a doctor who could combine the medication approach with the talk therapy, and I found that. I found someone who's totally easy to talk to. I always leave feeling uplifted.

None of this would matter, however, if she wasn't also a truly brilliant doctor. As someone with a PhD who works in research, I value my doctors' intellect enormously. She is like one of the psychiatrists you see in the movies: widely read, knows any allusions you might make in explaining a topic, is highly credentialed, and fluent in the latest research. She's very demure and will let you do most of the talking, but that's her way of listening to you and gathering the info she needs. When you subsequently engage her on a topic, that's when you see how intelligent she is.

Dr. Collins made sure every single question I had was answered, and is always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. Her staff is very friendly and professional. I was impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting her.
