Dr. Crocker Wensel has helped me with my depression more than any other doctor.

The office did not return my initial message for a new patient appointment and I had to call and leave a second message. My wait time for an appointment was about 6 weeks, which seems pretty standard. Dr. Crocker-Wensel was dismissive and unhelpful. She spent a large portion of the appointment going over the side-effects of medications that I have already been on for 10 years- side-effects that I was already aware of. She also lectured to me extensively about the condition that I was diagnosed with many, many years ago, and which I have already educated myself about, without seeming to try to gauge how much of what she was saying I might already be aware of. She was condescending (I'm crazy, not an idiot) and did not answer my questions directly. I got the impression that she did not think I was capable of following her answers. At the very end of that initial appointment, she suggested that I stop taking a medication that I have been on for over a decade in order to avoid the cost of the blood test she would otherwise have had to order (I'm paying out of pocket and had expressed my financial concerns). This felt incredibly irresponsible to me. As a patient, it's important to me to feel like I'm taking an active role in my own care, and that I'm being included and consulted, not dictated to. I left in tears, having spent $330, unwilling to ever go back to her and unable to afford a 90 minute appointment with a new psychiatrist.
