Dr. Nia failed to provide indirect supervision as defined by ADA guidelines, as she was not physically present during or after she allowed her dental assistant to perform all procedures related to the fabrication and cementation of two temporary crowns, and all supporting procedures that were required for execution.

Dr. Nia did not have an adequate period of time to be able to effectively evaluate the work of her dental assistant from a holistic perspective, as the dental assistant has only been employed with Tysons Corner Dental Associates for approximately one month.

Prior to leaving the room Dr. Nia also advised her dental assistant not to provide anesthesia, which caused a substantial amount of pain during the insertion of the metal mold for the two temporary crowns.

During her absence, Dr. Nia allowed her dental assistant to perform the following procedures without evaluating the performance of her allied personnel (I, the patient, was dismissed prior to any evaluation by Dr. Nia and was charged $2,900+ for this procedure):
1) Fabricate and cement two temporary crowns
2) Place and remove matrices
3) Mix dental materials
4) Apply fluoride varnish, gels, foams, and agents
5) Apply and cure primer and bonding agents
6) Take impressions
7) Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
8) Take bite and occlusal registrations
9) Maintain field of operation through use of retraction, suction, irrigation, drying
10) Clean and polish removable appliances and prostheses
11) Prepare procedural trays/ armamentaria set-ups
12) Provide post-operative instructions
13) Give oral hygiene instruction
14) Provide preventive education and oral hygiene instruction

Let me emphasize that I was dismissed prior to any review of the aforementioned procedures performed by the dental assistant who has only been employed by Tysons Corner Dental Associates for a duration of approximately one month.

They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I was very satisfied with my visit. They were helpful and I left feeling encouraged. Very high tech office with digital xrays and even laser technology. Submitted all my forms through their website as well. I was able to have all my work done in house since they have specialists available on site as well.
