I am new to the area and scheduled my routine cleaning at All Smiles, as they are in my dental insurance network. Like the other two reviewers, I was shocked when I was told I had FOUR cavities. I actually called my husband in tears, as I am scared of needles and was dreading the work. My husband was immediately suspicious since my last cleaning had only been six months prior and urged me to get a second opinion. I scheduled an appointment at Apple Valley Dental and didn't tell them about Dr. Hearne's "diagnosis". They did an exam, took x-rays and didn't see any "shadows" to indicate cavities. In fact, they told me my teeth look great and to keep up the good work. I am livid that Dr. Hearne was going to drill into my mouth unnecessarily and cost me money, pain, and eventually a tooth - for those that don't know, every time you have dental work done, you compromise the tooth a little bit more. I found the previous review on here and am shocked at how similar the experience is to mine. Highly recommend to steer clear of this dentist and please seek a second opinion if you get a suspicious diagnosis from any dentist - apparently this is a specific and not uncommon type of dental fraud, especially for patients with insurance. (And if cost is an issue, dental colleges are a great place to confirm a diagnosis!)

I started going to Dr. Hearne when I got married in Sept. '06 because that is where my husband had been going. Previously I had been travelling to Vienna visit a dentist that I trust and had been going to my whole life. I typically don't have a problem with my teeth-- maybe an occational cavity, but it is pretty rare. The first time I visited Dr. Hearne, he told me I had two cavities that needed to be drilled. I set up another appointment at a later time to have them filled, and for the first time in my life cried while getting a cavity filled. Six months later I went in for a routine cleaning and check up. This time I was told that I had FOUR cavities that needed to be drilled, and two more that would need to be filled within the next year. This sounded rediculous to me, so I called my old dentist in Vienna, and scheduled an appointment. He told me that I had one minor cavity that was not at a point where we would drill it yet. But he did not see these other FIVE mysterious cavities that Dr. Hearne had told me about.
My husband heard my story, and decided to cancel the appointment he had to get two cavities filled at Dr. Hearne's, and vsit a completely different dentist to see if he really had these cavities. He visited a dentist in Winchester, and sure enough, came back with NO cavities.
I was talking to one of my friends recently who also goes to Dr. Hearne, and she also told me that she was sheduled to get a few cavities drilled. She, like my husband, cancelled her appointment, and was scheduled for yet another dentist, different from the ones my husband and I saw. She called me today to tell me the news: NO CAVITIES!
This happened to three different people, who got second oppinions from three different dentists. It doesn't seem like an accident to me!
