My son came home with a reference to an oral surgeon and told me that he had to have his wisdom teeth taken out (16 years old). I took him to the orthodontist as he also needed braces and I discussed the recommendation to see the oral surgeon and have the wisdom teeth removed. Answer from the orthodontist was "roots to the wisdom teeth aren't even there yet, let's get the braces on / off and take another picture of the wisdom teeth and make a decision at that time." Hmmmm makes me wonder if the dentist doesn't get a kick back for referrals to the oral surgeon?
