Dental Implants

Dr. Bernard Ang, DMD

Dental implants are the modern standard for treating missing teeth. Ultra-strong and durable, dental implants can be considered a permanent solution that feel and look like natural teeth.

Dr. Ang is a graduate of the London Institute in Implant Placement Surgery and he has equipped his office with the latest technology in implant placement, making the process efficient, comfortable and minimally invasive.

Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or to stabilize dentures and bridges to create full-mouth restorations.

Dental Implants look, feel & function like your own teeth. A dental implant is composed of a titanium post, which acts as the root, and a new tooth (a crown) that is placed on the implant.

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement because they integrate into the structure of your bone and they actually prevent bone loss and gum recession that can be associated with dentures and bridges.

They have definite advantages over other methods of tooth replacement:

-Improved comfort – they won’t slide uncomfortably like a denture.
-Easier eating – the implant is stable and as solid as a healthy natural tooth.
-Improved speech – compared to slipping dentures, which can make you mumble or slur.
-Durability – with proper care, brushing, flossing and regular check-ups, an implant can last a lifetime.
-Better than a bridge – for patients with one missing tooth, an implant is far superior, as it doesn’t require the cutting down and crowing of adjacent teeth to act as anchors for the bridge.
-Better oral health – just like your own teeth, regular brushing and flossing will keep gum disease away
-Prevents bone loss – missing teeth or other replacement options such as bridges or dentures allow the bone to deteriorate. The presence of natural teeth preserves the jawbone. When a root is missing the bone may erode and weaken. The dental implant fuses with the bone, creating a similar stable support.

Dr. Ang uses the latest in digital advancement and technology to place your implant accurately, efficiently and comfortably. A properly placed implant, including any necessary additional procedures such as bone grafting to augment the bone, will ensure that your new tooth will function well and be lasting.

3D Cat Scan:

The first step is a thorough oral examination and 3D X-rays of your skull area to give a 360º view. With the 3D images Dr. Ang can see the condition of your teeth, your bone depth, the position of the nerves and the sinus, and from this along with the other information he has gathered, can determine an exact treatment plan.

He studies the 3D images from the CAT scan to determine ahead of time the exact position and angle of your implant. As needed, he can create surgical guides that are placed on the gum for precision implant placement.

Your implant surgery:

If your bone depth is insufficient, Dr. Ang will arrange bone grafting, and for those with a large sinus cavity that doesn’t provide enough room for the implant, a sinus lift.

With all this preparation, your surgery is very quick and comfortable. Dr. Ang can place an implant in one short visit, and there is usually little to no post-surgical discomfort. He supplies you with temporary teeth while your implant is healing.

Digital impressions:

Dr. Ang employs digital impressions made with the Cadent iTero system. This system takes detailed measurements of your mouth and tooth structure so that implants can be made to fit perfectly.

Dr. Ang generally allows your implant about four months to integrate with the jaw at which point you are ready to have your permanent tooth placed. Dr. Ang uses handmade crowns from an excellent lab. These crowns look like your natural teeth; translucent and vital. They are also made from very durable porcelain.

Implant options:

With a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals, Dr. Ang can offer several different implant options to replace one or more of your missing teeth:

-Single-tooth implants
-Implant-supported bridges
-Implant-supported denture

Dr. Ang will help you choose the best option for you.
