In August 1993 I broke my right arm jumping on our trampoline. It turned out that my bone had died from the elbow to the shoulder with no known cause. It was officially termed a "Pathological fracture of the right Humerous Head". Truly not humerous at all. I saw another orthopedic surgeon for about 4-6 weeks until he determined that Dr. Irwin was whom I needed to see. It was a serious injury and Dr. Irwin was great from day one. He answered all of my questions thoroughly and made sure that I knew that "yes it could be cancerous" but he did not believe it would be and truly neither did I. I had 6 weeks of physical therapy to at least be able to move my arm (lots of stretching involved), then on to surgery in November 3 mos. after the initial injury, where he replaced the dead bone with donor bone. It turned out that Dr. Irwin was correct - not cancerous. Most everyone I know expected me to go on disability. However, I chose not to and continued physical therapy three times a week for a total of eight and a half months. I am happy to say that I went back to work six and a half months after the original injury. My husband and I truly believe that all this would have been impossible without Dr. Ron Irwin.
