We are proud to announce that Dr. Reid Owens will soon be joining his father’s practice. Both he and his father look forward to building relationships with their patients as well as assisting them in obtaining optimal oral health.
As a local Destrehan family dental practice, we are sure to maintain a low volume and high quality practice. This enables us to give our patients the time and effort that they deserve. In fact, many of Dr. Owens’ original patients’ children now bring in their own families to our Destrehan dental practice. We currently accept patients that are at least one years of age and older.
At Owens Family Dentistry, we commonly ask ourselves “Will this benefit our patients?”. We truly care about meeting our patients’ goals, Dr. Owens prides himself on selecting the best course of treatment for his patients every time.

Dr. Richard Owens is from Lafayette, Louisiana and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He was active duty with the U.S. Air Force and maintained inactive reserve status for 9 years while he continued his education. He attended LSU School of Dentistry, graduating in 1981. After working as an associate dentist in 5 dental practices, he entered private practice in Destrehan, Louisiana in 1985. He is a member of several dental associations and study clubs including the Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of Cad/Cam Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, New Orleans Dental Association, Cerec Study Club of New Orleans, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Training
He is ethically committed to his lifetime journey of excellent dental care through his ongoing postgraduate continuing education for the benefit of his patient population. He received his Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2007 which is achieved by only 7% of U.S. dentists. He has completed over 1400 hours throughout his career, including the completion of the Core Curriculum from the prestigious Dawson Academy of Advanced Dental Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the 2008 to 2010 Comprehensive Dentistry Program (MasterTrak) at the University of Florida School of Dentistry in Gainesville, Florida.
