About

Lonnie Rattner, D.M.D.

Dr. Rattner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and attended James Madison High School. He attended Adelphi University in Garden City, where he graduated with honors. After graduating from college, he continued his dental education at Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. He was elected to the Periodontal Honor Society and was one of only nine students selected to practice in the honors clinic at the school. This clinic was set up to allow only the top students in the class to function independently in the treatment of patients. Since he finished all his dental school clinical requirements in his junior year, Dr. Rattner spent his senior year working in the periodontics and oral diagnosis clinics as a student instructor to his fellow classmates.

After dental school, Dr. Rattner practiced as a general dentist in the Army. He was stationed in Germany for three years. There, he performed all phases of dentistry. This was invaluable in gaining extensive clinical experience is such fields as prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, pediatric dentistry and general dentistry.

When his Army tour was completed, Dr. Rattner returned to Temple University School of Dentistry for a residency in periodontics. Periodontics has always held a special place in the heart and mind of Dr. Rattner. His great uncle, Dr. Moses Rattner, was a pioneer in the field, having written one of the first textbooks of periodontics at the turn of the 20th century. Dr. Rattner was only one of four students out of more than 300 applicants selected for the periodontal residency program at Temple. He received extensive training and did research in the fields of periodontics and perio-prosthodontic therapy. When the residency program was completed, Dr. Rattner took and passed the comprehensive written examination for the specialty of Periodontics.

Dr. Rattner joined a periodontal practice in Great Neck, Long Island and took a position as a clinical instructor in the graduate periodontal clinic at Columbia University in New York. He was responsible for providing advanced periodontal training to the graduate students. He soon left the periodontal practice in Great Neck to start his own specialty practice in periodontics in West Islip, New York. In subsequent years, Dr. Rattner opened and was a principal in the specialty practice of periodontics in Woodbury, Westbury, Rockville Centre and Manhattan, New York.

In 1985, Dr. Rattner started his long association with implant treatment. There were no organized programs relative to the use of dental implants as they are being done today. Dr. Rattner traveled to California where he trained with Dr. Gerald Niznick, the developer of the Core-vent implant system. He also trained in Europe with Dr. Per I. Branemark, who developed the Branemark implant system. These two systems became the gold standard that is used for all implant systems in use today.

Dr. Rattner has published numerous articles over the past 25 years that have appeared in major dental journals. He is often asked to lecture in periodontics and dental implants at various dental meetings. In 1990, after having practiced in New York for over 15 years, Dr. Rattner moved to Florida to escape the cold weather of the North. He established his present practice in Boynton Beach.

Dr. Rattner is known by his patients for his kind and gentle manner. He is especially sensitive to apprehensive patients. His sense of humor and light touch puts patients at ease during their experience in his office.

Dr. Rattner lives locally with his wife, Dr. Wendy Fader, a psychologist. They have been married for over 30 years and have a son who works in finance in Beverly Hills, California.

They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting them. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. The office was very easy to locate. I didn't have any trouble finding it at all.
