This was my fifth visit to this office. My wait time has ranged from 15 minutes to 35 minutes. I scheduled this weeks visit over two weeks beforehand. 15 mins. after my scheduled appt. I was seen by a medical asst. who weighed me, checked my bp, took some info. Spent about 10 mins. with me. After spending the next 40 minutes in an exam room, I came out to ask how much longer I should expect to wait. A nurse (or other asst.) told me that I would be next. When I asked again about how long that might be, she told me that the Dr. was busy with a sick little girl. Suffice it to say, 70 minutes after my appointment time I left the office. The only time I saw the doctor was on my way in to the exam room when he was chatting it up with a couple of pharma reps. (Wonder if they had an appt. I know they arrived after I did and were allowed in before me.)
As far as the sick little girl goes, she was there and I have no doubt he was in an exam room with her. In fact, I heard him go into the room with her, when he was done the the drug reps, 35 mins. after my scheduled appt. I might have been over sensitive after all of that, but I just didn't think that response was necessary - as if my appt. was less important that "the sick little girl". The doctor being with a sick patient doesn't sound like something that would be terribly out of the ordinary. Never at any time did anyone come into my exam room to apologize for such an egregious wait, to offer me a glass of water, to make sure I was o.k., to let me know that the doctor was going to be a bit longer, offer me another appointment or show respect for my time in any way. The doctors of this office came very highly recommended to me and I really had high expectations and was looking forward to a great relationship. I really wish I could give this office the best of reviews. I do believe that a good doctor is concerned about all of his patients, not just the one in from of him. Of course not to the point of being distracted while delivering care; but certainly to the extent that staff is trained in quality customer service and measures are in place so that patients are not left to wait indefinitely. You're probably wondering about the follow-up phone call, to apologize for disregarding me, my time and my appointment....it never came.
